Generally, a transport document indicates that a shipment has been made with a designated carrier. The word "order" will not appear in the consignee field for vessel shipments, but the party entitled to claim the cargo will appear. Non-negotiable bills of lading are not bearer documents, so the carrier will deliver the goods only upon identification, often without requiring the surrender of the original bill. Only the party whose name is listed in the consignee field is entitled to receive goods shipped against a straight B/Lâalso known as a straight B/L.
